City hall of Rostock
The city hall of Rostock dating back to the 13th century is an interesting mixture of Brick Gothic and Baroque architecture. The Baroque porch was built in front of the Gothic wall in the beginning of the 18th century.
Gothic town hall in Stralsund
The old town hall on the Old Market Square dates back to 13th century. It is the landmark of the city and one of the most important secular buildings of North German Brick Gothic architecture. I was especially impressed by the huge show facade.

Council hall of Überlingen
Decoration at the city council hall of Überlingen, which hasn’t been altered since 1494. The hall is decorated with a cycle of limewood figures carved by master Jakob Ruß.
The subject of today for #FriFotos is ‘new’. That reminds me of a phenomenon I came across on my city walks for several times: The guide-book told me ‘this’ is the ‘new’ town hall of the place but actually the building looked pretty old-fashioned. For example have a look at the Neue Rathaus von Hannover (New town hall of Hanover) depicted above which was opened in 1913.
Town hall of Bonn
Unfortunately it was pretty rainy during my visit in Bonn. I got a nice photo of the town hall though. Many years ago I watched a ‘Rathaussturm’ here. Have you already heard about this carnival tradition? At the end of the carnival period the carnival revellers supported by a female guard ‘take over the power’ at the town hall for a few days.
Town hall of Retz
The very special town hall of Retz: Originally built as a church it turned into the office of the mayor after some war destruction. The most interesting detail is beneath the town hall: A huge wine cellar system named Retzer Erlebniskeller!
New city hall of Hanover
The castle-like New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) of Hanover (Hannover) was built during the era of Wilhelm II in eclectic style. It was opened in 1913. The observation deck in the dome is accessible via a remarkable elevator.
Old city hall of Bamberg
The old city hall (Altes Rathaus) of Bamberg was first mentioned in 1387. It is famous for its special location in the middle of the Regnitz River and for the fine painted façade made by Johann Anwender.
