Renaissance portal in Stralsund
This Renaissance portal dating back to 1568 can be found at the address Jacobiturmstraße 32 in the city of Stralsund. The three terracotta panels are considered to be created in the workshop of the sculptor Statius von Düren.
On our bike tour from Weimar to Wielandgut in Oßmannstedt, we pass the Renaissance palace Kromsdorf. Curious, we turn into the garden of the palace. Around 60 stone busts look at us. What might be the meaning of these busts?
Cranach House in Weimar
Detail of the Cranach House (Cranachhaus) located on the market place of Weimar. Lucas Cranach the Elder stayed here for the last period of his life in the years 1552/53. The Renaissce building was built in the years 1547/49.
The Freihaus of Christoph Weiß was built at the end of the 16th century. The Renaissance building is especially known for its window frames made of diamond-shaped bossages.

Water tower in Wels
This water tower in Wels was built in 1577/1579 by Wolfgang Khranlachner. Inside the tower, there is a pump designed by the watchmaker Clement Rench. The colourful façade painting was done by the artist Niclas Linkh.
Hoffmannsches Freihaus in Wels
This building generally known as ‘Hoffmannsches Freihaus’ or ‘Haus der Salome Alt’ was first mentioned in 1464. The name Freihaus (‘Free House’) refers to the fact that the residents of this building were outside the jurisdiction of the city court and were exempt from municipal taxes. More…
