Gorch Fock (1933) in Stralsund, Germany

The Gorch Fock I dates back to 1933. Before WWII, it served as a school ship for the German Reichsmarine. Today, it is a museum ship in Stralsund. Its name refers to the author Johann Wilhelm Kinau, who used the pseudonym Gorch Fock for his works.

Icebreaker “Stephan Jantzen”

Icebreaker 'Stephan Jantzen' in Rostock, Germany

This icebreaker was built in 1967 and is named after the sea rescuer Stephan Jantzen (1827-1913). The ship is off duty now. Although plans were to convert the vessel into a luxury icebreaker for private tours, it is still waiting for a new assignment at Rostock City Harbour.
