The Hohentwiel serves as a paddle-wheel steamer on Lake Constance (Bodensee). Dating back to 1913, it is the only operational steamship and the oldest continuously operating passenger ship still in service on the lake. The home port of the Austrian ship is near Bregenz.

Windegg Mansion (Schloss Windegg), also known as the ‘Bürgle‘, was founded in the 14th century as a guesthouse for a nearby abbey. There is a rumour that Pope Martin V stayed here for some time after his election in 1417 at the Council of Constance.

The statue of Imperia is placed at the port of Konstanz (Constance). It reminds us of the Konzil von Kostanz (Council of Constance) in the years 1414-1418. The rotating statue serves as a prominent landmark for passengers of ships on Bodensee (Lake Constance).

In the vicinity of the Wilhelma Zoo, you find this surprising fodder meadow (Fettwiese). The hay from this wild meadow inside the city of Stuttgart is for the animals of the nearby zoological garden.

The Sepulchral Chapel (Großherzogliche Grabkapelle Karlsruhe) was commissioned by Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden and his wife, Luise of Prussia. Five of seven Grand Dukes of Baden found their last rest in this chapel.

Montfort Castle (Schloss Montfort) is a lakeside palace next to Lake Constance (Bodensee). King William I of Württemberg commissioned this building in 1867. You’ll get this view while taking a boat from Lindau to Friedrichshafen.

Favorite Mansion (Schloss Favorite) is a Baroque maison de plaisance and hunting lodge near the much bigger Ludwigsburg Residential Palace (Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg). Its former animal park forms a landscape garden now.

While crossing Lake Constance from Meersburg to Constance by boat I took this photo of a conspicuous white coloured tower named Otto-Moericke-Turm. It is a former water tower which houses a youth hostel now. A fine address if one would like to stay at something special.

If you are fed up with colourful flowers in window boxes why not using cactus? I saw this decoration in Überlingen, a city on Lake Constance with some remarkable old buildings.

Decoration at the city council hall of Überlingen, which hasn’t been altered since 1494. The hall is decorated with a cycle of limewood figures carved by master Jakob Ruß.
A maypole in the town square of Schorndorf. The signs placed at the maypole represents different industries working in the city. Are there similar maypoles in your region?
