Coat of arms in Graz
The coat of arms above the gate of the Styrian Armory raises questions. It looks like a Styrian Panther mixed with the detail of a Graz Panther. The red horns make it Styrian. The crown, on the other hand, makes it look like a Graz coat of arms.
Peacock at Schloss Eggenberg
Visitors of Schloss Eggenberg find a bunch of peacocks on the castle grounds. Sometimes, one of these colourful animals blocks your way. In this pic, a peacock uses the path up to the rose mound to spread its feathers.
The Golden Calf by Hollein
This artwork by Hans Hollein stood in front of the Neue Galerie in Graz for several weeks. The former tank wagon for petroleum is named “The Golden Calf”. I guess this refers to the golden calf in the bible and the importance of oil for mankind.
Crescent with a face in Graz
This house sign in a lane in Graz depicts a star and crescent combination. If you look carefully, you’ll see the moon is showing a face. You find this sign on a 17th-century portal at the address Schmiedgasse 20 in Graz.

Even though Graz is an Austrian city, several parts look pretty Italian. An example of this impression is the Mausoleum of Ferdinand II. Its architect was the Italian Giovanni Pietro de Pomis.
Mercury at Schloss Eggenberg
This statue of God Mercury stands in the Planetary Garden of Eggenberg Castle (Schloss Eggenberg) in Graz. The garden represents the planets with different plants and sculptures.
Group Décor Sonore in Graz
At the beginning of the festival La Strada, I watched the French group Décor Sonore playing in the streets of the city using handrails, barriers, traffic signs and even balcony rails as instruments. By the way, the German word for beginning is ‘Anfang’.

During summer 2013 the organization Steirisches Kürbiskernöl g.g.A. (Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil P.D.O.) offers a tasting for pumpkin seed oil in a traditional restaurant of Graz. Opposite to other tastings of products this event doesn’t present different types of pumpkin seed oil for selling but explain the difference between Styrian pumpkin seed oil and other oils from abroad.

Hotel Wiesler in Graz
Hotel Wiesler is located next to the centre of Graz. After a short walk, guests reach the Kunsthaus (Museum of Contemporary Art) or the central marketplace. From many rooms, one has a fine view of the landmark of Graz, the Uhrturm (a clock tower).
