The Traunsee is the deepest lake in Austria (191 metres) and offers lovely views of high mountains and even an old castle set on a tiny island (Seeschloss Ort). You find this lake in the Salzkammergut region between Gmunden and Ebensee.

Otto Wagner Pavillon Karlsplatz
This Art Nouveau pavilion dates back to 1898. Architect Otto Wagner designed it as a station building for the Viennese Metropolitan Railway (Wiener Stadtbahn). Today, the Otto Wagner Pavillon houses a museum about this famous urban planner.
Sister Cities of Graz
This mural tells about the Sister Cities of Graz. You find it near the Schloßberg Museum on top of the hill (Schloßberg) in the middle of the Styrian capital. Today, it isn’t up-to-date. For example, it doesn’t mention Ljubljana that joined this group in 2001.
Truck powered by wood gas
Wood gas driven automobiles remind us of times with fuel shortages, e.g. during and after World War II. This truck powered by wood gas is a still-running model displayed at a classic military car meeting on the grounds of the Vienna Museum of Military History.
2nd Marcus Car in Mürzzuschlag
This pic shows an operating replica of the second car built by Siegfried Marcus. It formed an exhibit at a classic car meeting performed by the Südbahnmuseum in Mürzzuschlag. The original saw its construction in 1888/1889 and is still running too.
Theseus Temple in Vienna
Visitors who enter the Volksgarten, a public park in Vienna, seem to face a piece of Greek antiquity. Of course, it isn’t ancient. The Theseus Temple is a classicistic building from the years 1819/23. Today, it forms a dependence on the Museum of Fine Arts.
Monument to Marcus Aurelius
This monument to Marcus Aurelius is a replica of an equestrian statue on Capitols Square (Piazza del Campidoglio) in Rome. The sculpture in Tulln commemorates a Roman camp named Comagena, which was the predecessor of the modern city.
Bank Austria Kunstforum
The Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien forms an exhibition hall for art in the rooms of a former bank building. Even the erstwhile vault now works as a venue for presenting artworks. Today, the Kunstforum is known for performing yearly blockbuster exhibitions.
Weihnachtsdorf at Schloss Belvedere
The Weihnachtsdorf Schloss Belvedere is situated at the southern side of Schloss Belvedere (Belvedere Palace). Besides the great setting it offers stars located on the pond in front of it.
Attractions of Vienna
In this post, I’d like to show you several attractions in Vienna off the beaten track. Let’s start with this sculpture. The owl is a decoration created by the Swiss artist and architect Bruno Weber. We find it on the wall of the Vienna University of Technology Library.
Sundials in Austria
After leaving the railway station Mistelbach/Stadt I came across one of my first sundials in Austria. The piece placed on a private home in Lower Austria shows local agricultural products like corn and grapes. The German phrase ‘’Nuetz die Zeit!’ reminds people to use their time carefully.
Sundial in Tamsweg
This sundial, located at the parish church of Tamsweg depicts James, son of Zebedee (Jakobus der Ältere) who is the patron of this church. Tamsweg is the largest town of the Lungau region in the Austrian state of Salzburg.
