Next station of the festival ‘Gipfelklänge’, next surprise: Klaus Trabitsch and his band are playing together with the a capella trio Insingizi next to a mountain hut named Kitzhütte. After several very humorous and spirited songs, a local joined the group with an odd instrument.

Next station of the ‘Gipfelklänge’: After climbing up a steep path we were rewarded with several songs done by the A Capella Trio Insingizi from Zimbabwe. More…

The hiking tour with music named ‘Gipfelklänge’ has started. After a small hike along a lot of fodder meadows and fruit trees we came across this group called ‘Saxofour’. While having local tidbits bought at a nearby farmer house as lunch we all had a good time by listening to their spirited music.

Jelena Popržan and Rina Kacinari playing at the opening of the festival ‘Gipfelklänge’. A duo who plays Balkan folk in a very fun way.

A compilation of starters which are common in the Austrian region Mostviertel (from left to right): Räucherforelle (smoked trout), Sulz (cured meat in gelatine), Schafkäse (sheep milk cheese), Grammelschmalz (lard with greaves) and Karreespeck (back fat).

On the tracks of a former narrow-gauge railway between Ruprechtshofen and Wieselburg one have the chance to drive a draisine now. On a line of about 11 km one drive through a small area of swamp and after overcoming a little hill and having a break there one can dashing down to Wieselburg.

Next to the room where I took a workshop in creating hand-made paper I came across this sundial. It is placed at the court of Geras Abbey (Stift Geras). I wonder which castle is shown at that sundial?

The hotel is split in two buildings. One building used to be the granary, the other one the dairy farm of Geras Abbey. Actually I had an excellent view of Geras abbey from my room at the former granary. The hotel is also linked with Geras Abbey by offering a lot of workshops in the rooms of the abbey.

At an exhibition about the history of the fire brigades taking place at Geras Abbey (Stift Geras), I saw this Volkswagen Type 181. It was built in 1974 and was used as service car for the fire brigades in Lower Austria. Reading the story of this car makes me smile: Was this car really called “The Thing” in the US?

View from my hotel room in Geras. I stayed on the first floor of a former ‘Schüttkasten‘. That is a building which was used for the storage of corn in earlier times. From my room, I had this view of Geras Abbey (Stift Geras). Inside the building on the left side I took a lesson in producing hand-made paper lately.

Interesting mural seen at an abandoned building next to the railway station of Deutsch-Wagram. It shows a train dating back to the first days of passenger trains in Austria. At that time there was a train bringing people from Vienna to this place just for fun and having a good time outside the big city.
